Colgate Holds Off Bonnies, 82-72

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Colgate, 82-72, Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center.

Dani Haskell paced the Bonnies with 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting in 28 minutes of game action. Payton Fields tallied 14 points in 23 minutes off the bench while Nadechka Laccen also finished in double figures with 12 points to go along with three rebounds.

Colgate (4-2) led the Bonnies (2-3) by one, 37-36, at halftime.

The Raiders, however, opened the second half with a 7-0 spurt to take an eight-point edge over the Brown and White, proving to be the difference in Saturday's contest.

A Haskell 3-pointer with 8:27 left in the game pulled the Bonnies within five, 60-55, but that is as close as they would get as the Raiders responded with consecutive scores, extending their lead back to nine.

The Bonnies were able to control the pace in the first half, pulling away by as many as nine in the second quarter, 30-21, following a three from Mackenzie Pettinelli.

Colgate was able to outscore the Bonnies, 13-4, over the final five minutes of the first half to retake the lead at the break.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JIM CROWLEY
"Credit to Colgate. We knew this was a good team. They are very experienced and they play really, really hard. Offensively, we were good and some nice control of the game in the second quarter, but we let up defensively. But credit to them, they had some kids come off the bench and make big plays for them."

"It's a good opportunity for us to learn. The second half, they were fighting for the win and went after the board with great intensity. It throws off our offense, not being able to get into our pace off the boards."

GAME NOTES

  • The Bonnies finished the contest shooting 52.2 percent (24-for-46) from the field and 50.0 percent (7-for-14) from beyond the arc.
  • Colgate won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Bonnies 40-22 overall and 20-3 on the offensive glass.
  • Dani Haskell has had back-to-back games with 20 or more points. She averaged 25.5 points over two games this week and shot 70.8 percent from the field.
  • Payton Field's 14 points were a season-high while Macy Smith's nine points were a career-best.

The Bonnies remain at home to host Loyola (MD) Wednesday, Nov. 27. Tipoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
