Bonnies Tripped Up by UAlbany, 64-48

ALBANY, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to UAlbany, 64-48, Saturday afternoon at the Broadview Center in Albany.

Caitlin Frost paced the Bonnies with a career-high 16 points on 8-0f-13 shooting while Isabellah Middleton also finished in double figures with 11 points. Lena Walz also registered a new career-high with eight points.

The Great Danes held the Bonnies to 2-for-11 from the floor in the first quarter to take a 16-6 lead at the end of one.

In the second period, Frost pulled the Bonnies within seven, 21-14, with a paint score.

The hosts, however, used an 18-2 run over the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 39-16 lead at halftime.

The two teams traded baskets in the third quarter as the Great Danes maintained their double-digit advantage.

Bona's cut the deficit to 15 with the scores on the first two possessions of the fourth quarter, but UAlbany quickly responded with an and-one to halt the momentum.

A Dani Haskell floater with 2:41 remaining in the game brought the Bonnies within 15 once again, but that is all the closer they would get as UAlbany closed out the game with a 3-pointer with under a minute play, earning the victory.

UAlbany's Kayla Cooper led all scorers with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds.

GAME NOTES

  • The Bonnies finished contest shooting 41.2 percent (21-for-51) from the floor while UAlbany shot 45.6 percent (26-for-57) from the field.
  • Bona's battled in the second half, shooting 51.9 percent (14-for-27), including a 61.5 field goal percentage in the third quarter.
  • The Great Danes won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Brown and White, 37-24.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JIM CROWLEY
"We were not good enough in the first half. This is team that's going to play deep in March, they are going to win a lot of games and they are very experienced. We were not at that level enough in the first half and we let too many things impact our execution and how we wanted to play."

"I thought we responded really well in the second half. Certainly something we want to build on. We played the way we wanted to play. Isabellah played really hard and Caitlin is still getting her legs under but is really starting to get a feel for the offense."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies return home to host Little Three rival Niagara Tuesday, Dec. 17. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
