ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team dropped a 66-50 decision to Duquesne Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center.
The Bonnies were able to jump ahead of the Dukes early on, taking a 7-1 lead following a Payton Fields 3-pointer with 5:10 showing on the clock.
Duquesne (16-9, 11-3 A-10), however, used a 10-0 sprint to take an 11-7 lead and never looked back.
A traditional three-point play from Duquesne's Gabby Grantham-Medley midway through the second pushed the visitor's lead to double digits, 23-13.
The Dukes lead grew to as many as 21 in the first half as part of a 19-3 run over the final 7:04 of the quarter, taking a 36-16 lead at the break.
Another Fields 3-pointer with 7:45 left in the third cut the Bonnies deficit to down to 14, 39-25, but Duquesne answered with a three of its own on the following possession.
A pair of free throws from Isabellah Middleton trimmed the lead to 14 once again, 60-46, with 3:32 left in the game, but that is as close as the Bonnies (4-20, 1-12 A-10) would get as the Dukes maintained their double-digit lead, earning the victory.
Nadechka Laccen paced the Bonnies with 12 points, finishing 5-for-11 from the floor. Also in double figures were Middleton with 10 points to go along with five rebounds while Fields added 10 tallied and six rebounds.
Megan McConnell led Duquesne with 20 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.
The Bonnies are back in action Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Reilly Center when they host Fordham for their annual Pink Game. Tip is slated for 1:00 p.m.
