ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – An injury-riddled St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Fordham, 70-48, Sunday afternoon at the Reilly Center for the annual Pink Game.
Isabellah Middleton posted her second double-double of the season to pace the Bonnies, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Payton Fields registered a career-high 15 points and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds.
The Rams (10-15, 5-9 A-10) got out to a fast start, taking a 9-0 lead early on in the first quarter.
Dani Haskell answered with four points of her own to cut into the deficit, but Fordham ended the first with an 8-2 sprint, taking a 17-6 lead after one.
Middleton and Haskell cut the Bonnies (4-21, 1-13 A-10) gap to seven to begin the second period, but another Fordham run saw the visitors grow their lead to 15, 27-12, with 1:19 remaining in the first half.
A 6-0 Bonnies run to end the first half pulled the hosts back within single digits, 27-18, at the break.
Fordham began the second half with a 6-0 spurt, swelling its lead back to 15, 35-20.
A pair of Haskell free throws pulled the Brown and White within 11, 43-32, but that is as close as they would get as the Rams responded with six unanswered points to retake a 17-point lead.
The Rams held onto their double-digit lead throughout the fourth period, earning the victory.
Taya Davis led all scorers with 25 points for Fordham.
Proceeds from Sunday's Pink Game go directly to the purchase of cooling caps, which help with hair loss associated with cancer care.
The Bonnies wrap up their three-game homestand Wednesday, Feb. 21 when they host George Mason at the Reilly Center. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.
