LOUISVILLE, Ky.—After splitting the opening two games of a four-game set, the St. Bonaventure baseball team dropped game three against Louisville on Saturday afternoon, 15-2.
Â
After
Tristan Ciampa set down the Cardinals swiftly in the first inning, the hosts posted a seven spot in the second to hold a comfortable lead.
Â
The Bonnies were able to answer with a run in the top of the third, with David Marshall,
Adam Rankie, and
Jack Putney all singling to load the bases. That led to
Antonio Cordeiro grounding out but scoring Marshall to make it a 7-1 game.
Â
Louisville added four more in the bottom half of the fourth to expand their lead to double digits, 11-1.
Â
Cordeiro, Marshall and Putney once again teamed up to provide a run, this time in the top of the fifth.Â
Â
Paul Vossen walked to begin the frame for the Brown and White, which was immediately followed by a Marshall double down the left-field line. Putney also earned a free pass two batters later, setting up Cordeiro with a bases loaded chance and one out.
Â
The freshman singled to earn his first career RBI and score Vossen for the Bonnies second run of the game.
Â
The Cardinals tacked on one more in the bottom of the fifth and would go on to score three in the next four innings.Â
Â
The Bonnies offense went quiet in the late innings seeing just two hits over four innings. Putney was left on base in the seventh inning after a one out single. Vossen was left stranded in the ninth after his one out double down the left field line.Â
Â
Tucker Fenton was a bright spot on the bump for St. Bonaventure, hurling two scoreless innings to end the game. He fanned two batters and allowed just one hit. Â
Bona's plays their final game against the Cardinals tomorrow at 1 p.m.
