Bonnies Earn 5-4 Victory Over Rhode Island; Split Doubleheader

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team defeated Rhode Island, 5-4, in game two of the three-game series at Joyce Field Sunday and Monday.

The Rams bested the Bonnies in game one, 11-2, and took the series finale, 8-0, Monday afternoon.

In game two, it was the Bonnies (2-15, 1-5 A-10) that struck first once again, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on a single from Kylie Bickert and a run-scoring groundout from Brooke Bobbey.

The Rams answered right away in the bottom of fourth, scoring two on a single off the bat of Elena Gonzalez.

Rhody tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, making it a 4-2 game as the teams headed into the final frame.

Following a leadoff Grace Walker single in the top of the seventh, Kymora Wang smacked an RBI double to right-center field that brought Walker home from first, cutting the deficit to one, 4-3.

Reanna Perkins tied the game a few batters later, singling home Wang from third.

Up next was pinch hitter Kendall Stull who was hit by the first pitch of the at-bat, bringing home the go-ahead run from third and giving the Bonnies a 5-4 lead.

Emily Phelan shut the door in the bottom of the seventh, capping off her complete-game effort and striking out four.

In game one, Olivia Moon propelled the Bonnies ahead in the top of the first with a no-doubt, two-run home run to left-center field, scoring Grace Walker from first.

The Rams would get a run in the first and third inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Rhode Island erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 8-2 advantage. The Rams added three runs in the sixth, earning the victory.

In the series finale, the Rams (5-19, 3-3 A-10) jumped out to a 5-0 lead powered by a four-run bottom of the third.

Rhode Island tacked on a run in the fourth and two in the fifth, earning the series victory.
