Men's Lacrosse Hosts UMass Saturday

OPENING FACEOFF
  • The St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team returns to the Marra Athletics Complex Saturday to host UMass. The Bonnies are 0-2 in Atlantic 10 play while UMass is 1-1.
  • The Bonnies last played at High Point April 5 and were led by two goals apiece from Kellen Pulera and Josh Rosa. For Pulera, he stretched his program record to nine straight games with a goal as he has scored at least one goal in every game this season including six games with multiple goals. Rosa, meanwhile, tallied his first career multi-goal game, including an acrobatic over-the-shoulder score that captured attention on social media last week.
  • Freshman Patrick Shanahan scored his first career Atlantic 10 goal while Kyle Pepper and Joey Paterno each tallied scores as well last week. Quinn Nolan won seven faceoffs while freshman Evan Gallo made his first four career saves.
  • The Bonnies and UMass met for the first time last year in Amherst, Mass., and UMass came away with a 14-3 victory. Sean Westley had all three goals in that game for the Bonnies - he now is a rookie in the National Lacrosse League with the Las Vegas DesertDogs. Cristofero Cucciuffo made a career-high 22 saves in net for Bona's.
  • Jake Kucinski has set a new Bonnies program record for goals by a freshman during the program's Division I era with 16, surpassing the 15 scored by Matthew DeGirolamo in 2019. Both Kucinski and Patrick Shanahan are closing in on the program points record by a freshman as well - Sean Westley set the mark of 27 in 2019 - Kucinski enters this weekend with 24 points while Shanahan has 20. 
 
ABOUT UMASS
  • The Minutemen are 5-5 overall with a 1-1 mark in conference games. They started league play with a win over Hobart before falling to #19/20 Saint Joseph's
  • UMass was picked third in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll, tied with High Point with 21 points.
  • Faceoff specialist Caleb Hammet was selected to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference team. He has posted a 47.4% faceoff win percentage this season while averaging 6.10 groundballs per game.
  • Mason Bregman is the points leader for the Minutemen with 28 on 17 goals and 11 assists.
  • Goalkeeper Matt Knote has the second-best save percentage in the Atlantic 10 at .560, making 13.1 saves per game.
 
STANDOUT NUMBERS

Both freshman Benny Carter and junior Aiden MacDonell have eight caused turnovers apiece, each ranking ninth in A-10 CT/game.
20 – Three Bonnies have 20 or more points this season: Jake Kucinski (24), Kellen Pulera (22) and Patrick Shanahan (20).
21 – Kellen Pulera ranks seventh among all A-10 players with 21 goals this season and sixth in goals per game (2.33).
46% –  Quinn Nolan has a faceoff winning percentage of 46.6% this season.
65% –  The Bonnies defense has successfully killed off 65% of penalties this season.
