ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team captured game two to earn a split of Saturday's doubleheader against Fordham at Joyce Field.
The Rams grabbed game one, 8-6, but the Bonnies regrouped for a 4-3 win in game two.
Game 1 – Fordham 8, St. Bonaventure 6
The Bonnies were able to break through first in the bottom of the second when Brooke Bobbey lined a two-run single up the middle, scoring Eleanor Park and Kennedy Haberl.
The Rams pulled one back in the top of the third after Bailey Enoch crossed home on a wild pitch.
Fordham evened the score in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nicki Sudall.
Bona's was able to load the bases with one out in the bottom half of the fourth when Bobbey stepped up again. The senior belted a double to left-center field, driving in Park and Haberl to put the Bonnies back on top, 4-2.
Olivia Whitecar drove in a third run in the inning with an RBI groundout, making it a three-run game.
The Rams took their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth, 7-5, plating five in the inning on a walk, single, double and a wild pitch.
The Bonnies looked to rally in the bottom half of the sixth when Haberl scored from second on a Reanna Perkins infield single.
That is as close as the hosts would get as Fordham tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Emily Phelan tossed 5.0 innings for the Bonnies, striking out five. Kylie Bicket and Tori McGraw pitched in relief for the Brown and White.
Game 2 – St. Bonaventure 4, Fordham 3
The Rams struck first in the top of the first with a two-run double off the bat of Sudall.
The Bonnies pulled one back in the bottom of the first when Bobbey came around to score on a throwing error by the catcher.
Enoch scored on an error for the Rams in the top of the second to push the visitor's lead back to two.
Haberl brought the Bonnies within one once again in the bottom of the third with a single through the middle.
Emily McKenna gave the Bonnies their first lead in game two, 4-3, with a pinch-hit two-run double in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Sydney DeGram and Haberl.
Kendall Stull went the distance for the Bonnies in the circle, striking out a pair for his collegiate victory.
The Bonnies and Rams wrap up the three-game series Sunday with a single game at 12:00 p.m.
