Bonnies Fall to Davidson on the Road

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team fell to Davidson in their final road game of the season, 15-7.

Graduate goalkeeper Ashley Herrick made a season-high 17 saves in cage while six different Bonnies scored on a sunny day at the new Davidson College Stadium.

Bona (7-9, 3-5 A-10) scored first, capitalizing on a power play opportunity less than 30 seconds into the game. Senior Abby Hiltz found Grace Hollenbeck cutting in front of the cage and she put the Bonnies on the scoreboard first.

Davidson (9-6, 6-2) responded by scoring three in a row before Jessica Notaro scored her first of two on the day on a free position opportunity with 5:20 remaining in the quarter.

The Wildcats extended their lead out to 6-2 in the middle of the second quarter, but Brooke Piper and Fiona McGovern each scored on free position opportunities for SBU.

After Herrick's eighth save of the second quarter, the Bonnies got the ball back for one more possession before time expired. Hollenbeck found herself suffocated by the Davidson defense but was able to get a pass off to Callie Kessler who buried the ball into the back of the net as time expired on the shot clock and made it 8-5 Wildcats going into the half.

Coming out of the intermission, Bona's was able to cut the deficit down to two as Piper won the opening draw control and Notaro was able to dodge her way to the cage and score.

However, the Davidson offense came to life, scoring three in a row to make it an 11-6 game.

Bona's got one back with 50 seconds remaining in the quarter as Kassi Hogan finished on the pass from McGovern.

The fourth quarter was all Davidson though as the Wildcats outscored Bona 4-0 in the final 15 minutes.

The Bonnies host VCU in their final regular season contest next Saturday at the Marra Athletics Complex. Opening draw is set for noon.
