DAYTON, OHIO – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a midweek doubleheader on the road at Dayton Wednesday afternoon.
The Flyers took game one, 6-0, and earned the sweep with 9-1 win in game two.
Game 1 – Dayton 6, St. Bonaventure 0
The Flyers broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Dee Hyde.
Dayton doubled its lead in the bottom half of the fourth on an RBI groundout and then took a 4-0 advantage in the fifth when Deirdre Flaherty doubled home a pair.
The Flyers added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth, earning the victory.
Kennedy Haberl doubled while Kymora Wang and Olivia Whitecar also registered hits for the Brown and White.
Emily Phelan tossed 5.1 innings in the circle, striking out three. Kylie Bickert pitched in relief for the Bonnies.
Game 2 – Dayton 9, St. Bonaventure 1 (6 inn.)
Kymora Wang belted her first career home run in the opening frame to give the Bonnies the early lead.
Dayton, however, responded with a pair of sacrifice flies in the bottom half of the first to take a 2-1 advantage.
Up 3-1 in the third, the Flyers added a fourth run of the game with a solo home run off the bat of Flaherty.
Dayton tacked on a fifth run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fourth.
The Flyers clinched the doubleheader sweep with a four-run bottom of the sixth.
Tori McGraw struck out a season-high five batters in 5.0 innings of work. Kendall Stull worked in relief for the Brown and White.
Brookey Bobbey also collected a hit for Bona's.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, April 27 when they begin at three-game series on the road at George Mason.
