FAIRFAX, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team split an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Sunday afternoon at George Mason.
The Bonnies dropped game one Saturday afternoon, 7-2, but bounced back to take game one of Sunday's doubleheader, 3-2.
George Mason won the series with a 2-1 victory in game two Sunday.
Game 1 – George Mason 7, St. Bonaventure 2
The Bonnies struck first in Saturday's soggy series opener when Kymora Wang singled home Brooke Bobbey in the top of the first.
The Patriots tied the game in the bottom of the third with an RBI single of their own before Maddy Myer's solo home run in the home half of the fourth gave George Mason its first lead of the day, 2-1.
Mason extended its lead to four in the bottom of the fifth on two singles and a sacrifice fly.
Wang drove in her second run of the contest in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly, scoring Bobbey and cutting the deficit to three.
George Mason tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth, earning the victory.
Emily Phelan pitched 4.1 innings, striking out three while Tori McGraw worked 1.2 innings in relief.
Game 2 – St. Bonaventure 3, George Mason 2
It was Wang who gave the Bonnies an early lead once again in game two, tripling home Sydney DeGram in the top of the first.
The Bonnies added a pair of runs to their lead in the third with an RBI groundout from Eleanor Park and an RBI single off the bat of Grace Walker.
The Patriots pulled one back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout, making it a 3-1 Bonnies lead.
The hosts looked to rally in the seventh, scoring on a stolen base.
The Bonnies, however, were able to shut the door on the Patriots rally, capturing the win.
Kendall Stull went the distance for the Brown and White, scattering six hits for her third win of the season.
Olivia Whitecar and DeGram each registered a pair of hits for the Bonnies.
Game 3 – George Mason 2, St. Bonaventure 1
Walker was able to put the Bonnies ahead by a run in the top of the first with an RBI single to right field.
The Patriots were able to break through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, plating a pair of runs on back-to-back singles and giving the hosts a 2-1 lead.
George Mason was able to hold the Bonnies at bay, earning the series win.
Phelan tossed a complete game for the Bonnies, striking out four and allowing just four hits.
The Bonnies are back in action Tuesday, April 30 when they travel to take on Niagara.
