Bona's Bid For First A-10 Victory Comes Up Short in 11-10 Heartbreaker vs. Hobart

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure battled to the final whistle in search of its first Atlantic 10 men's lacrosse win, but Hobart held on for an 11-10 victory to end the Bonnies' season in heartbreaking fashion Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.

What began as a wild slugfest turned into a defensive battle in the second half.

Hobart's Chris Patterson scored the game-winning goal with 6:17 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Bonaventure came painfully close to tying the game on multiple occasions.

Onenioteko:wa Maracle rang the post with 2:08 to play and the Statesmen were able to clear away the threat.

With 1:19 remaining, the Bonnies went on the power play following a Hobart penalty.

Kellen Pulera put a shot on goal, but Hobart's Jack Faiola made the save.

The Bonnies had one more chance, setting up an opportunity following a timeout. Jake Rosa made a bid for the tie, but his shot with 11 seconds to go hit the inside of the post and flew to the right of the net where Brooks Rhine was able to scoop up the loose ball for Hobart and run out the clock.

Maracle, Patrick Shanahan and Josh Rosa all scored two goals apiece for the Bonnies while Shanahan (2G-1A) and Conor Murphy (1G-2A) both had three points.

Anthony Cimino, Joey Paterno and Jake Rosa all found the back of the cage as well.

St. Bonaventure led 5-4 after the first quarter and the teams went to halftime tied, 7-7.

The Bonnies led 8-7 with 10:28 left in the third following a wraparound goal by Josh Rosa, but Hobart rolled the next three goals for a 10-8 lead, the largest margin of separation on the day, with 1:18 to go in the penultimate quarter. Murphy scored on the first of two assists by Kyle Pepper with eight seconds left in the third to set up the fourth.

Maracle's second goal of the day tied the game, 10-10, with 8:42 left before Patterson's game-winner.

Chad Bach and Anthony Datellas tallied hat tricks for Hobart (4-9, 1-4 A-10).

Cristofero Cuiccuffo made 15 saves for St. Bonaventure (1-11, 0-5). Atkin Dwyer and Nick Porfilio both had two caused turnovers defensively as well.

Jake Rosa finishes his Bonnies career ranking second in program scoring with 122 points over five seasons (72G-50A).
