Baseball Swept in Series at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson swept an Atlantic 10 baseball series from St. Bonaventure this week in North Carolina.

Game 1 – Davidson 9, St. Bonaventure 2

Michael Salina held the Wildcats without a hit into the fifth inning before a bloop double down the left field line landed just fair to begin the frame. A single to center put runners at the corners before trouble fielding Wildcat bunts allowed the hosts to get on the board.

A squeeze play saw the bunt roll under the pitcher's glove to allow the first run to score before another bunt single kept the inning alive.

With two outs, Eli Putnam delivered the crushing blow, a grand slam to straight away center for his Atlantic 10-leading 15th homer of the season to cap the five-run uprising.

The Bonnies put runners at second and third in the fifth and had two runners aboard again in the sixth, but could not break through.

Robert Mannino had the only extra base hit of the day for the Bonnies, helping drive in a run with a triple in the ninth.

Salina's 10 strikeouts are the most by a Bonaventure pitcher this season.

Game 2 – Davidson 8, St. Bonaventure 1

Davidson took control in Friday's game with a six-run first and never looked back.

Bona got a run in the third on an RBI single from Mannino.

Luke Roggenburk excelled in relief with a season-long outing of 7.1 innings out of the bullpen. The junior right-hander scattered seven hits and allowed just two earned runs, walking two and striking out five.

Adam Rankie and Kyle Caccamise both had two hits each.

Game 3 – Davidson 8, St. Bonaventure 5

The Bonnies led early in Saturday's series finale, pushing across two in the opening inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Antonio Cordeiro and Mannino. A Rankie sacrifice fly made it a 3-0 Bonnies lead after two.

Davidson chipped away, though, getting a run back in each the third and fifth innings before surging ahead on a three-run sixth. Jacob Friend's two-out, two-strike single to right plated two and put the Wildcats in front.

The Wildcats scored in four straight innings for an 8-3 lead before the Bonnies tallied runs in the eighth and ninth on sac flies from Cordeiro and Jackson DeJohn.

Bobby Finn started and struck out four in 3.2 innings of work on the hill.

The Bonnies have four home games remaining, first hosting Niagara Tuesday at 3 p.m. before welcoming Fordham for the final series of the year Thursday through Saturday.
