WACO, Texas — St. Bonaventure women's soccer fell behind early and fell at Baylor, 5-2, Sunday night in the Lone Star State.
After the Bears grabbed a 4-0 first half lead, though, the Bonnies owned a 2-1 advantage in the final 45 minutes thanks to the first collegiate goals from
Lauren Westwood and
Evie Underhill.
The Bonnies began the match with an offensive mindset, taking the game's first shot just over a minute in when freshman
Torrie Grant-Clavijo sent in a trickling shot saved by the Baylor keeper.
In the 14
th minute, the visitors kept the attack going as
Mahelie Barbeau sent in a dangerous shot ricocheting off the crossbar.
Despite taking the first two shots, Baylor scored the opening tally, slotting home a rebound off a free kick sent into the box in the 19
th minute.
The Bears (1-1) tallied three more goals before the end of the first half, taking a 4-0 lead into the break.
The Bonnies got on the scoreboard in the 48
th minute as Westwood converted a penalty kick after
Hannah Walker drew a foul in the box. The sophomore's goal marks the first of her collegiate career and the first for St. Bonaventure this season.
Underhill added a second goal for St. Bonaventure in the final minute of play. The freshman delivered the finishing touch on a cross from Walker as the first score of her collegiate career.
Jael Schubert made her second start of the season in net, making eight saves.
The Bonnies are back in action on Thursday for an 8 p.m. first touch against Texas Tech.
