LUBBOCK, Texas — St. Bonaventure women's soccer fell at No. 8 Texas Tech on a scorching hot evening in Lubbock, 5-0. The game served as the second in a two-game trip to Texas and the Bonnies third consecutive road game to open the 2024 season.
St. Bonaventure (0-3-0) held the eighth-ranked Red Raiders to just one goal in the first 45 minutes Thursday night.
With temperatures soaring near the century mark at gametime, Texas Tech (2-1-0) controlled the early going of the match, taking seven shots in the opening 10 minutes. Bona's backline allowed only one score from the Red Raiders before the intermission, as Peyton Parsons scored the game's opening goal in the 10
th minute.
St. Bonaventure spent the final 35 minutes of the opening stanza defending against the Red Raiders attack as
Jael Schubert made four saves while the Bonnies blocked another six shots.
After 45 scoreless minutes, the Red Raiders netted their second goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half. They added three more before the final whistle in the 69
th, 70
th and 89
th minutes to break open the score.
Schubert finished with five saves while six Bonnies played the full 90 minutes. With the win, Texas Tech scored its 14th consecutive win on home turf and improved to 21-1-6 in their last 28 regular season matches.
St. Bonaventure returns to Western New York for its home opener Sunday against Binghamton for a 1 p.m. first touch at the Marra Athletics Complex.
