RIVARLY RECAP
The Bonnies captured their first win of the 2024 season against Little Three rival Canisius, 2-1, Thursday evening on the road.
Senior Andres Javitt put the Bonnies ahead in the seventh minute off assists from graduate students Mo Tall and Bo Drath for his first score of the season.
In the 26th minute, Javitt and senior Keegan Dawson combined for the double assist when sophomore defender Luc Finelli found the back of the net to give the Bonnies a two-goal lead.
Junior Nicolas Pucci made a season-high six saves in net while just allowing the one goal.
DROUGHT ENDED
Andres Javitt's goal in the seventh minute against Canisius was the senior first point since securing three points Sept. 23, 2023 against George Mason, ending a streak of 11 straight games without a goal or an assist.
Prior to the drought, Javitt registered five goals and two assists for 12 points in his eight games with the Bonnies in 2023.
IN THE RANKS
Junior goalkeeper Nicolas Pucci entered the weekend as the Atlantic 10 leader in saves with 14 through three games and is also tied for first in goalkeeper minutes played with 270. He also ranks fourth in the A-10 in saves per game at 4.7.
PENN STATE NOTES
Penn State enters Monday's contest 1-2 overall to begin the new season, defeating Army 2-1 last Sunday. The Nittany Lions have been tested early, however, dropping contests to No. 1 Clemson and No. 3 Pitt. PSU was picked to finish second in the Big Ten preseason poll after finishing last season 10-5-4 and falling to Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament finals.
Returning for the Nittany Lions are Mohamed Cisset, Matthew Henderson and Caden Grabfelder who were all named Big Ten Players to Watch this preseason. Grabfelder earned Big Ten All-Freshmen honors in 2023, scoring three goals to go along with three assists as the teams second leading scorer.
Henderson, Grabfelder and Christian Dionne netted both goals for Penn State this season. In net, Fredrick Grundin and Andrew Cooke each started one game. Cooke made three saves while Grundin made one.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies continue their stretch of five straight on the road when they travel to take on Quinnipiac Saturday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
