UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team fell to Penn State, 4-0, on the road Monday evening.
The Nittany Lions opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Ben Liscum found the ball on his foot at the top of the box and rocketed a shot into the back of the net.Â
Andres Javitt looked to even the score in the 18th minute when he got in behind the defense, but was called offside.Â
Just moments later, Xavier Davidson had a chance on goal, but Penn State goalkeeper Fredrick Grundin was there to make the save.Â
Xaver Ehrlich had the best scoring chance of the first half, forcing Grundin to make a diving save in the 32nd minute off a long throw-in from Keegan Dawson.Â
Michael Hewes gave Penn State a 2-0 lead just before halftime in the 39th minute, scoring on a strike from outside the box.Â
The Bonnies looked to break through on the scoreboard in the 63rd minute when Gabriel Addo had a clean look at the net. Addo's shot, however, rolled just wide of the net, leaving the Bonnies still searching for their first goal.Â
Penn State put the game out of reach for good in the 74th minute when Matthew Henderson slotted home the goal.Â
Christian Dionne tacked on a fourth goal for the Nittany Lions in the 77th minute.Â
Bona's created 10 chances in the contest, including a team-high four shots from Addo. Ehlrich tallied two shots while Davidson, Umechi Akuazaoku, Sven Merkesdal and Daniel Helle all registered one shot apiece.
In net, Nicolas Pucci made five saves for the Brown and White.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Sept. 7 when they travel to take on Quinnipiac. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
