Bonnies Post Multiple Career Highs But Fall at Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA – Zoe Shaw registered a career-high 19 points, but it was not enough as the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's, 83-56, Wednesday evening at Hagan Arena.

Shaw paced the Bonnies with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Richardson chipped in 10 points for the Bonnies in 27 minutes. Dani Haskell finished the night with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Saint Joseph's jumped out to an early double-digit advantage in the first quarter Wednesday night and never looked back.

The Hawks (15-4, 6-2 A-10) shot 9-for-16 in the first period while holding the Bonnies (5-14, 1-7 A-10) to 1-for-11 shooting, building a 22-2 lead after one.

Shaw scored five points in the second quarter as the Bonnies looked to build momentum.

Saint Joseph's, however, held the Bonnies without a field goal over the final two minutes of the first half, taking a 41-15 lead at the break.

The Bonnies saw shots start to fall in the third with five different players making baskets for the Brown and White.

Bona's cut into the deficit at the end of the third by outscoring the Hawks, 7-2, over the final two minutes.

Richardson tallied eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter for the Brown and White.

Mackenzie Smith registered 20 points to lead all scorers while Laura Ziegler posted 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Hawks.

GAME NOTES

  • The Bonnies finished the game shooting 41.8 percent (23-for-55) from the field while the Hawks shot 55.0 percent (33-for-60). Bona's came to life in the second half, making 55.2 percent (16-for-29) from the floor.
  • The Brown and White committed eight first quarter turnovers but committed just four the rest of the game.
  • The Hawks outrebounded the Bonnies, 34-24, while the Bonnies bench outscored the Hawks reserves, 15-11.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JIM CROWLEY
"You look across three quarters and it's a seven-point game. We only have four turnovers. We only give up four offensive rebounds. We shoot 50 percent. We have got to figure out a better way as coaches to get them ready."

"Some of it is youth, but we are very close. We saw some good things. This is one of the better teams in the Atlantic 10, on the cusp of an NCAA Tournament bid and playing at home, but there was a lot of things that we did that were good. We just did one really, really bad thing for 10 minutes and that was the first quarter."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies remain on the road and head to the Big Apple to take on Fordham Saturday, Jan. 25. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Gym.
