DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team could not overcome an offensive surge on the road at Dayton, falling 6-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon in the Buckeye State.
The Flyers (11-3-2, 8-0 A-10) scored early as the Bonnies (3-11-2, 0-8 A-10) gave up a fifth-minute goal, courtesy of a redirected corner kick that was corralled and netted by Lauren Fields. Though Bona held the hosts to that lone score in a slow-paced first half, a flurry of goals in the second stanza would put the match out of reach.
The 1-0 score remained until halftime with the decision still in doubt.
Dayton notched its second goal just three minutes after the break as Liv Grenda took advantage of another chaotic corner kick. A third score followed just four minutes later as Ky Hau-Golden placed a well-struck ball in the corner of the net from far outside the box.
From that point on the Flyers would continue to pour on the pressure, punching in a goal in the 66
th minute before finding back-to-back openings in the Bonaventure defense and scoring in the 76
th and 77
th minutes to seal the result.
Junior goalkeeper
Juliana Castellano started the match and made one save, being replaced by sophomore
Adelaide Paredes at halftime.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MELISSA SHERWOOD
"The game was a tale of two halves today. We performed well in the first half and showed maturity to carry out the gameplan. In the second half, they turned it on and we capitulated. We have to lick our wounds and go again. I'm looking forward to a big effort for the final week of our season."
