FAIRFAX, Va. – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team was defeated on the road at George Mason on Thursday evening, 4-0.
Â
The Bonnies (3-7-2, 0-4 A-10) struggled to keep up with the Patriots' offensive output on a breezy night as opportunities did not come easily for the visitors.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Adelaide Paredes began the game with two big saves in the third and fifth minutes as George Mason (4-6-2, 3-1 A-10) put the pressure on early.
That pressure eventually resulted in scoring for the hosts in the 16th minute as the Bonnies were called for a handball in the box. The Patriots' Zoë Vidaurre fired home the ensuing penalty kick to the left side as Paredes dove to the right.
Â
Vidaurre got a second opportunity just three minutes later as sophomore midfielder
Hannah Lindenberger made a hard attempt at a tackle while the hosts were breaking towards net. Lindenberger was assessed a yellow card, and Vidaurre switched up her technique on her second penalty shot by burying it for a 2-0 edge.
Â
George Mason nearly widened the gap in the 38
th minute but a goal was called back for an offside penalty.
Â
Bona looked to come out of the break with a new offensive energy, but the Patriots' continued focus on possession and ball security made things difficult.
Â
The hosts tacked on another score about ten minutes into the half as an accurate corner kick was served into the box. Paredes deflected the following header, but to the dismay of the Bonaventure sideline, the ball bounced off the front of the crossbar and back into the possession of Molly Starner, who returned it towards net for a goal.
Â
George Mason notched their fourth and final score in the 60th minute as Starner came open on the left side, collecting a cross and firing to the top-left corner of the net to seal the result.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MELISSA SHERWOOD
"Unfortunately, the poor penalty decision which led to the opening goal gave us an uphill battle. We suffered a tough loss today and that's the game sometimes. We have to stick together and keep fighting to give our best in every moment, no matter how easy or difficult that moment is. We look forward to getting back to our home field for Sunday's match."
