LEWISTON, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's swim and dive team continued its strong early-season form with multiple individual wins and a series of close finishes in a competitive matchup at Niagara on Saturday.
The Purple Eagles prevailed in the team standings, however, by a 168-94 margin.
Junior
Anna Bojana Forjan led the way once again for the Bonnies, posting a victory in the 100-backstroke (55.91) and finishing runner-up in the 200-back (2:00.13) and 200-individual medley (2:08.23). Senior Katie Beyer continued her steady form, placing second in the 200-freestyle (1:52.99) and fifth in the 200-back (2:06.64).
Freshman
Kate Hill added to her breakout season as the two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week placed second in the 100-freestyle (52.37) and third in the 50-free (24.07), while also anchoring the Bonnies' 400-freestyle relay that took second in 3:29.15.
Freshman
Sophie Baker grabbed a runner-up finish in the 100-butterfly (57.35) and added third-place efforts in both the 50-free (24.08) and 100-free (52.59).
Nele Vetter earned a second-place mark in the 200-fly (2:07.17) and contributed to relay points as well.
In the breaststroke, sophomore
Sarah Gonzalez paced the Bonnies with second in the 100-breast (1:06.58) and fourth in the 200-breast (2:27.81), followed closely in both events by Katie Lyons (1:08.60, 2:28.31) and
Paris Christie (1:08.25, 2:31.17).
The 200-medley relay of Baker, Forjan, Vetter, and Hill took second with a 1:45.29 finish, while the second relay (Colon, Christie, M. Hill, Sadowski) earned fourth with a 1:47.39 finish to collect valuable points.
The Bonnies were strong in the distance events, led by sophomore
Samantha Schnappauf, who finished second in the 1000-freestyle (10:24.57) and again took runner-up in the 500-free (5:03.43). Junior Alessandra Ren placed fourth in both distance races (10:35.83/5:08.95), while freshman
Cameron Darnell added depth with top-five finishes in the 1000 (10:42.64) and 500 (5:14.69).
