Bonnies Erase Early Deficit to Defeat Binghamton, 68-65

VESTAL, N.Y. – Laycee Drake tallied a career-high 20 points and Brillana Boyd netted 15 points to pace the Bonnies to a 68-65 comeback win on the road at Binghamton Tuesday night.

Drake finished the game 7-for-14 from the field to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Boyd shot 6-for-11 from the floor and grabbed five boards for the Brown and White.

Coming out of the break, the Bearcats pushed the lead to 40-30 with 7:53 showing in the period.

Trailing 44-39, the Bonnies scored eight unanswered points to take their first lead of the game, 45-44.

The two sides traded scores to head to the final period tied, 47-47.

Neither team could pull away early in the fourth as the Bonnies took a 56-54 lead after Mackenzie Pettinelli's jump shot dropped.

Binghamton, however, came down and the next possession, making a three and retaking the lead with 6:14 left in the game.

Drake pushed the Bonnies ahead 58-57 with a free throw before she and Aaliyah Parker linked up on the next possession to take a three-point lead.

The Bonnies retained their three-point lead, 64-61, following a Drake second-chance score.

Binghamton, however, pushed back to tie the game, 65-65.

With 30 seconds remaining in the game, Parker drove the lane and was fouled, sending her to the line. She converted on 1-of-2 chances from the line, giving the Bonnies a lead they would not relinquish.

After a jump ball gave possession back to the Bonnies Drake was able to cut through the lane and put the game out of reach with a layup.

It was a slow start to Tuesday's game for the Brown and White as Binghamton broke out to a 12-0 lead midway through the first.

The Bonnies were able to end the drought with a pair of free throws from Mallory Heise following the media timeout.

Bona's fell behind 22-8 early in the second before an and-one from Brillana Boyd and four straight points from Ivona Djikanovic trimmed the Binghamton lead to 22-15, forcing a Bearcat timeout.

Boyd scored the next six points for the Brown and White, but Binghamton answered with a quick 6-0 spurt to push its lead back to double digits.

The Bonnies, however, closed the first half with a 5-0 run of their own to cut the deficit down to five at halftime, 33-28.

  • The Bonnies finished the game shooting 25-for-60 (41.7 percent) from the field while Binghamton shot 27-for-64 (42.2 percent) from the floor.
  • Bona's outrebounded the Bearcats, 42-31.
  • Mallory Heise did a little bit of everything Tuesday, tallying seven points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Bonnies return home to host Little Three rival Canisius Friday, Nov. 19. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
