ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's swim and dive team put together a commanding all-around performance for their season's first victory, defeating Canisius, 233-67, Friday night at the Reilly Center Pool.
Junior
Anna Bojana Forjan set the tone early for the Bonnies, helping lead the winning 200-medley relay (1:44.58) and later capturing individual victories in the 200-freestyle (1:53.77) and 200-backstroke (2:03.28). She capped her day by anchoring the winning 200-freestyle relay (1:36.03), teaming with
Sophie Baker,
Kate Hill, and
Maris Sadowski.
Freshman
Kate Hill continued her breakout campaign, taking first in both the 50-free (24.17) and 100-free (52.92) while contributing to both relay wins.
Sophie Baker also had a standout meet, claiming first in the 100-backstroke (56.15) and 100-butterfly (58.09) in addition to swimming key legs on the victorious relays.
In the distance events,
Phoebe McClaren paced the field in the 1000-free (10:35.58) with teammates
Samantha Schnappauf (10:38.81) and
Cameron Darnell (10:44.32) sweeping the top three spots. Alessandra Ren (5:12.58), Katie Beyer (5:16.42), and
Nele Vetter (5:20.01) repeated the sweep later in the 500-free.
The Bonnies' depth showed throughout the meet, including a podium sweep in the 200-fly, led by Vetter (2:09.34),
Grace Purtell (2:11.65), and
Caroline Murray (2:12.92).
Mia Hill took top honors in the 200-individual medley (2:11.36), followed closely by Grace and
Zoe Purtell in second and third, respectively.
Junior
Sarah Gonzalez led the way in the breaststroke, winning both the 100 (1:08.14) and 200 (2:28.89). Teammates
Paris Christie and Katie Lyons added top-five finishes in both events to secure more Bona points.
On the boards, the Bonnies swept both diving events behind
Dhavgely Mendoza, who took first on the 1-meter (268.73) and 3-meter (268.73). Freshmen
Lia Doskoris (239.33/263.78) and
Paige Gandolfini (204.23/219.90) finished second and third in both events to complete the diving sweep.
