ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to VCU, 81-37, Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center.
Zoe Shaw led the Bonnies with 12 points and three steals. Caitlin Frost chipped in nine points and four rebounds while Hannah Richardson added seven tallies.
The Rams (12-15, 6-9 A-10) opened the game with a 5-0 lead before Richardson got the Bonnies on the board with a 3-pointer.
The two sides traded baskets over the next five minutes with VCU holding a 12-11 edge with 2:24 remaining in the first.
The visitors used an 18-0 run through the end of the first and into the second quarter, taking a 30-11 lead.
VCU's lead grew to as many as 36 in the third quarter.
Shaw looked to spark the Bonnies (5-21, 1-14 A-10) with a 3-pointer of her own to end the third, but it was too late as the Rams held onto their double-digit lead in the fourth, earning the road win.
Mary-Anna Asare registered 18 points to lead VCU.
GAME NOTES
- The Bonnies finished the game shooting 28.6 percent (14-for-49) from the floor and VCU shot 57.9 percent (33-for-57) from the field.
- The Rams outrebounded the Bonnies, 41-22.
- Mackenzie Pettinelli pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies head back out on the road, traveling to take on La Salle Saturday, Feb. 22. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. in the City of Brotherly Love.
