LEXINGTON, S.C. – St. Bonaventure led early, but Morehead State powered its way to a series win with a 12-8 decision in Sunday's rubber game at Lexington County Stadium.
St. Bonaventure (4-3) led 4-0 before the Eagles batted in the second.
The Bonnies continued their trend of scoring early as they have now owned an early lead in six of the season's seven games.
Sunday, the Bonnies used speed on the bases to score the first run of the game as a double steal led to Jayce Tharnish swiping home.
In the second, Tharnish was at the center of the offense again as he doubled to the right-center gap to score both Paul Vossen and Harrison Kaufman. Later in the inning, Tharnish scored on an RBI single off the bat of Chris Hoalcraft for a 4-0 advantage.
Morehead State (4-2) got a run back on a homer from Aubrey Kearns in the second, but the Bonnies led 5-1 after a third inning sacrifice fly from Morgan Little.
The Eagles began to rally in earnest in the third with a two-run homer from Hunter Thomas, then closed to 5-4 in the fourth.
Antonio Cordeiro doubled home a run in the fifth for a 6-4 score, but the Eagles rolled off eight unanswered runs to race ahead 12-6 going to the ninth.
Harrison Kaufman drove home two in the ninth inning, but it would not be enough for the Bonnies.
Kaufman and David Marshall Jr. each had three hits for Bona's.
The Bonnies next travel to Tennessee where they are scheduled to play a three-game series at Middle Tennessee State beginning Friday vs. Old Dominion. Bona will play against host MTSU on Saturday before wrapping Sunday vs. UT Martin.
