Women's Lacrosse Powers Past Binghamton, 10-6

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team earned their third win of the season Tuesday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex, triumphing over defending America East champion Binghamton, 10-6.

Sophomore goalie Katelyn Hicks had her third game of the season with double digit saves, tallying 10 stops.

Offensively Brooke Piper led the way recording four goals, all in the first half. Fiona McGovern added three points on two goals and an assist.

The Bonnies (3-2) netted the game's first goal under a minute in when Riley Devlin found the back of the cage off a feed from McGovern.

The Bearcats (1-3) scored the next two before Piper halted the Binghamton momentum with her first score of the first half, tying the game, 2-2.

Another goal for each squad saw action knotted up, 3-3, at the end of the first.

It was all Bonnies in the second as Piper completed her first-half hat-trick with a pair of goal while Grace Hollenbeck added a score, giving the Brown and White a 6-3 halftime lead.

Binghamton cut into the deficit to begin the second half, but the Bonnies responded with four unanswered goals. McGovern and Tori Nascimento each netted a pair in the period, pushing the Bonnies lead to 10-4. For McGovern, it marked her 100th career goal. She becomes the 10th player in Bonnies program history to reach 100 career goals.

Olivia Muscolino scored the fifth goal of the game for Binghamton with under a minute to play in the third, but a defensive fourth quarter thwarted off a comeback attempt from the Bearcats.

The only score of the fourth quarter can seven minutes in when Emma Blloshmi scored a power play goal.

Three saves from Hicks following the Bearcats score salted away the win for the Bonnies.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH LEIGHANN STAUFFER
"We really powered through adversity today. We've had a couple games of quick turnarounds in this first portion of the season due to weather changes, but the girls have powered through. Our team just keeps getting better through each game. Fiona got her 100th goal today, the defense held a great team to only 6 goals. We're doing a lot of good things and definitely looking to take this momentum down to Florida."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies travel to Florida for a pair of games. The Brown and White clash with Stetson Feb. 28 and South Florida March 2.
