Men's Lacrosse Aims To Keep Momentum at Le Moyne

OPENING FACEOFF
The St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team looks to continue their recent success, traveling to Syracuse on Saturday to take on Le Moyne on Ted Grant Field. The Bonnies enter at 2-3, coming off an 11-9 win over Mercyhurst. Le Moyne stands at 1-1 on the year. NOTE: The game time has been moved up to 1 p.m. due to inclement weather in the forecast.
 
LAST TIME OUT
St. Bonaventure took care of business at home last time out, defeating Mercyhurst 11-9 on Tuesday. The Bonnies took an early 5-1 lead with 10 minutes left in the second quarter, but the Lakers responded with three unanswered goals and went into the half down 7-6. The teams were locked at eight in the fourth quarter, but SBU benefited from two late Patrick Shanahan goals and another from Drew Kenney to pull away.
 
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Bona's 46 shots logged against Mercyhurst is tied for the second highest single game total in program history. The team put 23 of these shots on goal and scored 11 of them.
 
FIRST TIME FOES
The Bonnies' matchup with Le Moyne marks the fourth time the squad will play a first time opponent so far this season. The Bonnies have gone 2-1 against these new foes, beating Mercyhurst and Mount St. Mary's but dropping their matchup with Bucknell. Le Moyne is the last new opponent on the schedule this season.
 
TIME TO MAN-UP
Led by three man-up scores from Kyle Pepper, Bona has been successful on 40 percent of their advantage opportunities. Pepper ranks seventh nationally and the team ranks second in the conference in man-up tallies.
 
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Freshman Lad Harper has made an immediate impact at the faceoff dot for the Bonnies. With his 57.7 percent win percentage this season, he ranks second in the A-10 and 26th in the nation. He was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week earlier this season.
 
CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS
Through five games this season, senior Drew Kenney has already broken his career-high mark for goals in a season with six. He has also tied his career-high for assists in a season with five. Senior Conor Murphy had a career-best six points in the Merchurst win and is approaching his career highs as well as he has nine goals and 12 points. His career bests came as a freshman in 2022 when he posted 10 goals and 20 points.

TRENDING NUMBERS
5 – Benny Carter and Cameron Viavada are tied for the team-lead with five caused turnovers apiece this season. 
11 – St. Bonaventure scored a season-high 11 goals in their last win vs. Mercyhurst
16 – Patrick Shanahan has scooped up 16 groundballs, which is the highest among all Bonnies with the exception of faceoff specialist Lad Harper who has 30.
19 & 73.1% – Connor Murphy has recorded 19 shots on goal this season, good for a 73.1% shot on goal percentage

ABOUT LE MOYNE
  • The Dolphins are coached by Dan Sheehan who is in his 28th season with the team. He has compiled a 84.5 percent winning percentage (370-68) and has won six Division II national championships. Prior to the program's transition to Division I, he led the Dolphins to 11 straight D-II NCAA Tournaments, not including the shortened 2020 season. Le Moyne went 3-8 last season after moving to the D-I ranks.
  • Le Moyne was picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Dolphins have played just two games, opening the year with an 11-10 win over Canisius before dropping at 15-4 decision vs. Lafayette last weekend. 
  • Junior attacker Owen Wilson leads all point scorers through two games with 4 points (3G-1A). The team has already seen 10 other players score at least one point as well.
  • Graduate student defender Jagger Kerr leads the team with four caused turnovers. He has also scooped five groundballs, the most on the team not including faceoff specialists.
