ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Bucknell opened the game on a 7-0 run and never relinquished control in a 21-8 win over the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon at a frosty Marra Athletics Complex.
Eight different Bonnies tallied goals in the freezing conditions. Freshman Isaac Farmer made his first collegiate start in cage for the Brown and White, making 14 saves.
Jake Kuchinski tallied three points for the Bonnies (1G-2A).
Blanked in the opening stanza, Lad Harper was the first goal-scorer of the day for the Bonnies, winning the faceoff at 6:56 in the second quarter and taking it to the back of the cage himself for his first collegiate goal.
Harper won the following faceoff, and the Bonnies earned an extra man opportunity as Bucknell was called for unnecessary roughness. Kyle Pepper gathered the carom off a shot from Drew Kenney and netted the second of the game for Bona.
Over the next four minutes, Bucknell put up two more goals to extend their lead back to seven; However, with 17 seconds left in the half, the Bonnies got possession off a Bucknell penalty and made quick work downfield. Jake Kucinski found a cutting Kenney, who beat the halftime buzzer and made it a 9-3 game at the break.
Kucinski netted one of his own to start the second half and cut the deficit to five on a power play opportunity.
Bucknell (2-0) regained firm command with a 4-0 run over the next five minutes of play, making it 13-4.
Jaxon Dillon ended the run from the Bison, scoring a man-up goal off the pass from Kucinski.
Blayze Becker made it two in a row for the Bonnies on a long-range shot from the Bona defensive end, but Bucknell responded with a 5-0 run to close the third quarter.
Two minutes into the final frame, Kaden Brennan netted the seventh goal of the day for the Bonnies.
Kellen Pulera added one more to the Bonnies total with 6:31 left to play, but Bucknell would secure the 21-8 win.
Harper won 13 faceoffs, a career-high for the freshman, and he also added eight groundballs.
Connor Davis posted five goals while Michael Meyer recorded six points (4G-2A).
The Bonnies travel to Mount St. Mary's Tuesday for their first road game of the season.
