ST. LOUIS – Early offense stuck for the hosts as Saint Louis captured a Saturday and series win over the St. Bonaventure baseball team, 7-3, in the rubber game of a three-game series at the Billiken Sports Center.
The Billikens (15-12, 6-3 A-10) grabbed the lead in the third on a two-run single to left center off the bat of Branden Stressler and tacked on another following a single from Riley Iffrig.
A bases loaded walk drawn by Max McGwire made it a 4-0 lead for the Billikens before Ethan Sitzman singled home two more for a commanding 6-0 advantage through five frames.
St. Bonaventure (9-16, 2-7) attempted to claw back with a run in each the sixth, eighth and ninth innings but it would not be enough.
Jayce Tharnish had two more hits, giving him nine for the series, along with an RBI while the other run producers were Robert Mannino and Harrison Kaufman.
Chance Moore (5.0 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) got the start for the Bonnies while Alex Barger tossed three innings of one-run relief.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JASON RATHBUN
"The guys battled all weekend but came up just short of winning the series. As a coach, I am proud of our guys' heart and character with how we competed. There is a lot of baseball left this season and we just need to keep grinding to get better every week."
