Softball Scores Series Sweep Over Rhode Island

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team completed a three-game sweep of Rhode Island with a 5-4 victory Saturday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Rams took the lead in the top of the second, plating a pair of runs on a single and a double.

The Bonnies pulled one back in the bottom of the fourth with a bases loaded single from Abigail Ahern, scoring Kendall Stull from third. The potential tying run, however, was cut down at the plate with a throw from the Rhode Island right fielder.

Bona's kept the momentum going into the fifth, taking its first lead of the day in the frame.

Victoria Jacques tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single down the right field line before the Bonnies took their first lead of the day a few pitches later when Karena Recrosio scored on a wild pitch.

The Bonnies pushed their lead to 4-2 with an RBI double from Kymora Wang and Nolah Moyer made it a three-run game with a single up the middle two batters later.

URI tried to rally, scoring one in the sixth and another in the seventh, bringing the score to 5-4 in favor of the Bonnies.

Kendall Stull struck out the go ahead run at the plate, stranding the tying run on first and capturing the series sweep. It marked Stull's second save of the series and fifth of the season.

Mackenzie Frani picked up her second win in two games, scattering seven hits and allowing just two earned runs.

Recrosio record a multi-hit day with a pair of singles.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies remain at home to host Niagara Wednesday, April 23 for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
