Women's Soccer Falls at Youngstown State, 3-0

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest at Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon.

A previously deadlocked match was blown open in the 64th minute as the Penguins (1-3) scored their first of three goals in quick succession. The hosts caught a break as SBU goalkeeper Adelaide Paredes, who subbed in at halftime and made five saves, was struck in the face with a shot which rebounded back into play for an easy goal.

Just four minutes later, the hosts scored again as a Bonaventure defender tripped while giving chase, leading to another open opportunity. The Penguins further widened the gap seven minutes later, scoring on a header as an accurate cross was sent into the box.

Though the Bonnies (0-2-1) struggled to keep the Youngstown State offense quiet in the second stanza, they showed off impressive defense in the first half with several key plays to keep the contest scoreless going into halftime. In the 27th minute, sophomore midfielder Hannah Lindenberger stepped in front of a cross to stop a promising opportunity, and just before she was replaced at the break, goalkeeper Juliana Castellano stonewalled a booming shot for her fourth of five total saves.

The Bonnies had late chances to get on the board but were unsuccessful. Giovanna Coghetto struck a ball from deep in the 77th minute which looked close but eventually floated just over top of the crossbar. Six minutes later, fellow graduate student Daniela De Souza similarly sent a free kick just high of the target, ending the visitors' final real chance at a score and sealing the result.

Youngstown State recorded 13 shots on goal, outpacing St. Bonaventure's five.
