Coghetto's Hat Trick Lifts Women's Soccer To Road Victory at Post

WATERBURY, Conn. – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team notched its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon, benefitting from graduate student Giovanna Coghetto's hat trick to beat Post 5-0 on the road.

Coghetto scored back-to-back goals in the 25th and 26th minutes to give the Bonnies (1-2-2) momentum, and from there the squad never looked back. Her third goal in the opening minutes of the second half solidified her as just the 11th player in program history to score three or more times in a game, which has not happened by a Bonnie since 2023.

Also finding the back of the net for SBU were sophomore midfielder Hannah Lindenberger, who tallied her first score of the season just before halftime, and graduate student Daniela De Souza, whose shot in the 83rd minute sealed the victory for the Bonnies as their fifth and final goal. Sophomore Hannah Smith also recorded her first point of the year in the contest, assisting Coghetto's second goal.

Senior goalkeeper Jael Schubert made her season debut, starting and making two saves during a shutout half in net. She was replaced at the break by sophomore Adelaide Paredes, who tallied three saves of her own.

Division II Post struggled to create offense in the match, being outshot 24-9 and allowing eight corner kicks while being limited to just one.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MELISSA SHERWOOD
"I'm pleased for the team to get their first win and clean sheet together today and for some players to get their first goals in a Bonnies shirt, including a hat trick for Giovanna. We still have many things to build on and we have to continue to get better with every performance."
