ST. BONAVENTURE, NY – Dasonte Bowen scored a career-best-tying 17 points, but the St. Bonaventure men's basketball team fell to No. 24-ranked Saint Louis, 97-62, Friday night (Jan. 23) at the Reilly Center.
Bowen shot 7-for-11 from the field. Buddy Simmons II notched 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting (2-for-5 3FG).
Cayden Charles posted nine points and seven rebounds while
Achille Lonati chipped in seven points.
FIRST HALF:
The Billikens (19-1, 7-0 Atlantic 10) came out hot, shooting 4-for-6 from the field to take a 10-2 lead less three minutes into the contest.
St. Bonaventure (12-8, 1-6 A-10) found its footing off a free throw from
Frank Mitchell and driving layup from Bowen, cutting its deficit to 10-5. St. Louis nailed a three after Bowen's score, but Mitchell finished a lay-in to keep the Bonnies within two-possessions, 13-7.
SLU pushed its lead to double-digits, 19-7, at the 13:28 mark and to 20, 31-11, with 10:15 remaining off an 18-4 run overall.
Saint Louis held a 58-26 advantage heading into the break. Bowen led the Bonnies with 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting at half.
SECOND HALF:
Simmons II nailed a corner three-pointer to open the scoring for both sides. The Bonnies later went on a 7-2 surge through a Simmons II lay-in and triples from
Daniel Egbuniwe and Simmons II to force a Billikens timeout at 16:06.
Despite its deficit, Bonaventure kept fighting, going on a 6-2 push with 11:42 remaining following four straight points from Charles and a pull jumper from Bowen.
Saint Louis ultimately answered every St. Bonaventure threat to protect its lead and take a 97-62 victory.

The Bonnies return to action against Duquesne on Wednesday (Jan. 28) at the UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with tipoff slated for 7:00 p.m.

- Freshman Andrew Osasuyi recorded a career-best five blocks.
- It is the most blocks in a game by a St. Bonaventure player since Chad Venning had six in 2024 (Jan. 17 vs. Rhode Island).
- Cayden Charles posted seven rebounds. He has tallied five-or-more rebounds in 12 of his last 13 games.
- Walk-ons Broek Ostrom and Jack DeRose each checked into the game in the final minutes.
