Bonnies Battle Dukes to 46-38 Road Victory

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team bested Duquesne, 46-38, on the road Wednesday evening.

Aaliyah Parker scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Bonnies while pulling down five rebounds. Laycee Drake finished with eight points and eight rebounds while Brianna Barr-Buday chipped in seven points for the Brown and White.

Duquesne took its biggest lead of the night to open the third, taking a 24-15 advantage over the Bonnies.

With just over two minutes to play in the third, Alexis Bordas made a 3-pointer to push the Duquesne lead to six, 32-26.

The Bonnies (11-5, 2-2 A-10) responded with a three from Brillana Boyd and a buzzer beater triple from Drake, tying the game at 32-32 heading into the final frame.

Parker gave Bona's with a turnaround jump shot to begin the fourth, but Duquesne was quick to tie the game back up at 34-34 just a few possessions later.

The graduate then gave the Bonnies a six-point, 40-34, with just over two minutes to go in the game following a pair of free throws.

She put the game out of reach for good with 51 seconds on the clock, fading away and converting from the wing to give the Bonnies a 42-36 edge.

With Duquesne forced to foul, Parker converted on four free throws down the stretch to seal the road victory.

The Bonnies got off to a slow start offensively, shooting just 1-for-12 from the floor in the opening period and falling behind 11-5.

Duquesne, however, was unable to take advantage as the Brown and White held the hosts scoreless over the final 5:23 of the first to keep it a single digit deficit.

Bona's battled back to tie it midway through the second at 14-14 when Mackenzie Pettinelli converted with the shot clock winding down.

The Dukes (7-8, 0-4 A-10) responded with an 8-1 run to end the first half to take a 22-15 lead at halftime.

GAME NOTES

  • The Bonnies finished the game shooting 28.3 percent (15-for-53) from the floor and held Duquesne to 23.6 percent (13-for-55) from the field.
  • Wednesday's win marks the first road victory over Duquesne since the 2011-12 season and snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Dukes overall.
  • Bona's doubled up Duquesne in bench points, outscoring the Dukes, 16-8.
