ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team dropped its final home match of the season, 1-0, to La Salle Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
After a slow start to the game for both teams, La Salle found some momentum in the 37th minute. With the Explorers (5-7-3, 1-3-2 A10) on the attack, the Bonnies (5-6-3, 2-3-1 A10) committed a foul right next to the box. After review, the foul was ruled to be inside the box. The Explorers executed on the penalty kick and took a 1-0 advantage
The Bonnies wasted no time trying to answer. In the 38th minute, Callum Shillington connected with a header that was tipped just over the crossbar. A minute later, Darien Martin had another shot on goal that was deflected just wide.
Going into halftime, La Salle maintained a one-goal lead.
Coming out to start the second half, both teams were unable to convert on the offensive end.
In the 64th minute, each team found themselves down a player. A confrontation before an Explorers' corner kick resulted in red cards for a member of each team, forcing them to play with 10 players for the rest of the game.
A last stitch effort on a corner kick with time winding down fell short as La Salle held on for the victory.
