ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team narrowly missed out on a victory in its home opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to Cleveland State, 152-148, in a performance which included six Reilly Center Pool record-setting times.
Â
Sophomore
Emanuele Zingaro led the Brown and White with two of those new pool records as he earned event wins in both the 50-free (19.84) and the 100-free (44.56).
Â
Junior
Mark Mizsei dashed to a victory and a pool-record time of 47.39 in the 100-fly, also taking first place in the 200-fly (1:46.56).
Â
Senior
Kevyn Collazo Torres posted a pool record of his own after he clocked in at 1:50.88 in the 200-IM.
Â
The remaining pair of pool records for SBU came in relay action. Leading off the meet with the 200-medley relay, the combination of Zingaro, Mizsei,
Joseph Pyon and
Blaise Sadowski cruised to a victory and entered the Reilly Center Pool record books with a time of 1:29.30.
Â
Then, to close out the day, Mizsei, Pyon, Zingaro and freshman
Pietro Mazzaretto recorded a new RC record with a first-place finish in the 400-free relay (2:59.08).
Â
Mazzaretto added to that success with an event win in the 200-free (1:39.42) and a third-place finish in the 100-free (45.15).
Â
Sophomore
Matheus Rinaldi paced himself effectively in the 1000-free (9:34.91) en route to the final remaining event win of the meet for the Bonnies.
Â
Rinaldi also found the podium in the 500-free (4:37.49), where he took third place and was preceded by freshman
Duncan McClaren in second place (4:36.93).
Â
Alongside his contributions in relays, Pyon earned second place in the 100-fly (48.67) and fourth place in the 200-fly (1:51.85).
Â
A handful of other Bonnies turned in impressive performances against the Vikings, including
Ben Witmer,
Connor Peck and
Johnny Edwards.
Â
Witmer sped to three podium placements, taking second place in the 200-back (1:48.33) and third place in both the 100-back (50.21) and the 200-IM (1:54.98). Edwards also found the podium in the 1000-free (9:41.85), where he trailed Rinaldi.
Â
Peck rounded out a competitive day for the Bonnies with a second-place mark in the 200-breast (2:07.32) and fourth-place finishes in both the 100-breast (58.12) and the 200-IM (1:55.45).

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH ALEC KANDT
"This group is special! Today, we showed that we can race and race fast, especially at home. For our men to take the meet to the final relay and set six pool records in the process is great. I couldn't have asked for anything more."
Â
UP NEXT
The Bonnies return to action on Nov. 7 as the squad will travel to face Little Three rival Canisius at 2:00 p.m.
