ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Despite a late penalty kick goal to even the score on Sunday afternoon, Davidson grabbed a goal in the waning minutes to cap a wild final stanza, 2-1, at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Â
Freshman
Liana Tata knotted the game at one goal apiece after burying that penalty kick in the 87th minute, taking advantage of a prime opportunity after sophomore
Ava Reybitz was fouled in the box.
Â
Though the score gave the Bonnies (4-11-1, 1-8-0 A10) new life in the match, the Wildcats (6-8-3, 2-5-2 A10) refused to quit, quickly reclaiming the lead which they had held since scoring the game's opening goal in the 15th minute.
Â
The visitors were awarded a corner kick and took advantage just one minute after Tata's goal. Davidson's Sophia Witton played an arching ball into the box which deflected off Bona's goalkeeper and into the net.
Â
After taking that 2-1 advantage with around three minutes left to play, Davidson was able to effectively drain the remaining clock and escape with a dramatic victory in Bona's final home game of 2026.
Â
Juliana Castellano earned her eighth start of the season and played full-time in the match, making seven total saves. She was awarded the Dr. Neal J. Johnson St. Bonaventure Women's Soccer Scholarship prior to kickoff.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH RAY LEONE
"Something we're going to have to work on in the spring is our lapse of concentration at the end of halves and games. At this stage of the season, that's not acceptable. I'm proud that we made a run again, even at the last second getting a corner. In our experience, we're learning painful lessons. We obviously didn't have enough in the tank for today, but for one more game, we've got what it takes."
