WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw on the road at George Washington Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
The Bonnies had a chance for the game's first goal in the 13th minute when Callem Shillington fired a low driven shot just inside the box but was turned away by George Washington goalkeeper Diego Pena.
Manex Landa had a look on net in the 24th minute but Pena was able to slide over to make the save to keep it a scoreless contest.
Bona's next chance came in the 32nd minute when Ryan Holt pounced on a deflection in the box following a Daniel Helle shot that was saved. His shot, however, went off the post and back into play as the game remained tied at 0-0 heading toward the end of the first half.
The two teams remain scoreless at the break.
Maarten Schouten was forced to make a save just out of halftime in the 49th minute, turning away Colin Pendergrast's chance on net.
Harrison Nitz looked to break the deadlock with a chance in the 67th minute but could not come away with a goal.
Schouten was tested again in the 69th minute and was able to make the save to keep GW off the board.
Landa was left alone at the top of the box following a steal by Brendan Sheehan in the 82nd minute but his shot sailed just high of the net and out of play.
Bona's put the pressure on the GW defense over the final five minutes of play but were unable to find the go-ahead goal, battling to a 0-0 draw.
Shillington, Landa and Holt paced the Bonnies with three shots each.
Winston Jory and Schouten combined to make four saves in net in the shutout.
The Bonnies finish the regular season 5-7-4 overall and 2-4-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
