Women's Soccer Closes Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. -  The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team closes their season with a 2-0 setback at George Washington University.

The action started in the sixth minute of the contest when a George Washington player lined up a shot outside the box, and Bonnie goalkeeper Callie Turpin made a diving save to deflect the ball off the post and keep the game scoreless.

The Revolutionaries (7-6-5, 4-3-3 A10) eventually opened the scoring off the foot of Anna Cornejo. Her shot in the 18th minute trickled off Turpin's hands and into the back of the net to make the score 1-0.

In the 35th minute, the first offensive chance for the Bonnies came from the foot of Audrey Cadman as she floated in a ball toward the goal that required George Washington's keeper to make an outstretched save. However, the ball made it past the keeper and kept going toward the back post. It floated out of bounds and ended the Bonnies' chance to score.

George Washington doubled their lead 44 seconds into the second half.

Cadman had another opportunity to bring the Bonnies back one shortly after in the 51st minute. She had the ball at the edge of the box and was able to get a shot off, however, the shot just missed wide of the goal.

The offensive chances kept coming for Cadman, 10 minutes later she rifled her best chance of the game on goal that just missed to the left.

After back-and-forth action for the remainder of the game, St. Bonaventure (4-12-1, 1-9-0) couldn't find the breakthroughs on offense they needed to erase the Revolutionaries' lead on the scoreboard, ending the Bonnies' season with a 2-0 loss.

Turpin saved seven shots during the contest.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH RAY LEONE
"At moments we had really good performances. It wasn't sustainable, and George Washington was an excellent opponent today. In the second half, there was much more purposeful possession in our play and that was positive for me to see. We're already thinking to next year. We have a certain way we want to play next year, and we saw that in the second half today."

"I do see improvements. The results didn't go the way we wanted, of course, but we did improve throughout the season."
