MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee built an early lead and never looked back on the way to taking the rubber game of a three-game series vs. the St. Bonaventure baseball team, 7-0.
On a very cold day in Tennessee, the hosts cracked into the scoring column on a sacrifice fly in the second and added a second tally in the third.
The Bonnies bats never could heat up, though they had a golden opportunity in the sixth of the 2-0 game when they loaded the bases with no outs. Despite having the middle of the order due up, the Bonnies could not push a run across.
The Blue Raiders (5-2) dominated the rest of the way, breaking the game open in the late innings.
St. Bonaventure was limited to just four hits with senior right-hander David Horn earning the win after striking out nine in his five innings of work.
James Capellupo struck out four in 1.1 innings of relief with both Owen Smith and Mark Holm tossing scoreless frames of relief as well.
SBU (3-4) is back in action in a three-game set at Navy next weekend beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
