St. Bonaventure will host the second annual Native American Heritage Day on Wednesday, Feb. 18, when the Bonnies men's basketball team welcomes Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m.
At last year's inaugural event, Fr. Stephen Mimnaugh, O.F.M., vice president for Mission Integration, read St. Bonaventure's Land Acknowledgment Statement publicly for the first time. The statement formally acknowledges that the Seneca Nation of Indians for generations were stewards of the land upon which St. Bonaventure University now sits.
This year's Native American Heritage Day will also feature a live reading of the Land Acknowledgment Statement as well as highlight the Seneca Nation flag now prominently displayed high above Bob Lanier Court.
Several Seneca Nation councilors and other Seneca VIPs will be in attendance, and the National Anthem will be sung by a member of the Seneca Nation.
Sixty free tickets will be made available to select Seneca Nation organizations through the St. Bonaventure Community Cares Program and all members of the Seneca Nation will have access to reduced-priced tickets courtesy of Seneca Allegany Resorts and Casino.
General tickets for the Feb. 18 matchup are available here.
