CHICAGO – The St. Bonaventure University softball team defeated Loyola Chicago, 2-1, on the road Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series.
It was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings as the game remained scoreless heading into the later stages of the contest.
Bonnies starter Kendall Stull did not allow her first hit of the ballgame until the bottom of the fourth.
The Bonnies were able to break the deadlock in the top of the fifth.
With runners on second and third following a Stull double, Grace Miller lined a double down the left field line, bringing home both runners to give the Brown and White a 2-0 lead.
The Ramblers pulled one back in the bottom half of the fifth, scoring on an error.
Stull and the Bonnies defense were able to shut down the Ramblers in the sixth and seventh, securing the series finale win.
Sydney DeGram finished the day with a pair of hits while Colsten Beers, Lauren Dundon, Stull and Miller also registered a hit apiece.
Stull went the distance in the circle, scattering just three hits while striking out a pair in the win.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH CAMDEN DECKER
"I'm very proud of the way we showed up today. We talk about Sunday being the most important day of the week. We are either going for the series win or sweep or salvaging one game of the series. Kendall gave us a great performance in the circle and we played solid defense behind her. We'll continue to work and look for our first series win at home next weekend."
