HUNTINGTON, West Va. – Marshall scored five runs with two outs to score a 5-4 victory Friday night over the St. Bonaventure baseball team.
Manuel Castro gave the Bonnies an early lead after smashing a solo home run to left in the second, his third of the season.
In the third, AJ Havrilla started a trend for the Herd with a two-out single to center to score the tying from third.
An inning later, Tyler Kamerer provided another clutch hit with two away by driving a bases-clearing double to left as the hosts raced ahead by three.
A Marshall error paved the way for the Bonnies to score twice in the sixth to get back within a run, but Cooper Hinson delivered another run-scoring two-out double in the right for insurance.
Bona (4-8) got back to a one-run deficit in the eighth when Joey Bruno singled home a tally, and threatened for the tie with runners at first and second but could not put together their own two-out magic as a fly out ended the inning.
David James (5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) started and struck out six for the Bonnies.
Starter Bryce Blevins struck out nine to earn the win for Marshall (6-6).
Saturday's game will start at noon instead of its originally scheduled start time of 4 p.m. The contest was moved ahead due to rain in the afternoon forecast.
