Men's Lacrosse Senior Night Thriller Goes For Hobart, 13-12

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – In a wild back-and-forth contest, Hobart owned the final run of the game by scoring the final three goals to overcome a Bonnies rally and score a 13-12 Atlantic 10 men's lacrosse victory Friday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.

On a memorable night for Bona's Class of 2026, the evening began with senior ceremonies for 11 Bonnies graduates in pregame. Bonnies seniors went on to score six of the team's goals, including a string of three consecutive second half pole goals from Cameron Viavada, Owen Tasse and Aiden MacDonell.

The Statesmen (3-10, 1-5 A-10) capitalized on a dominating start to the first quarter, scoring the game's first three goals within five minutes before the Bonnies (4-10, 0-6 A-10) could find the back of the net.

The hosts eventually got on the board midway through the first period as senior Blake Maracle found a fast break opportunity and buried a shot into the far side of the goal. Freshman Nino Sindoni made it back-to-back scores for the hosts seven minutes later after he split the Hobart defense with a sweet spin move and finished low with a bounce shot.

The Statesmen then went on a five-goal run to change the complexion of the game, earning an 8-2 lead before the five-minute mark of the second quarter. The hosts were able to cut that lead in half by the midway break as freshman Jonas Johnson scored solo and also assisted a Jaxon Dillon goal.

Between the 9:21 mark of the third quarter and 9:20 on the fourth quarter clock, the Bonnies scored six of the game's seven goals over that span to move from down 8-4 to ahead 12-10.

Tasse began the run with a nearly full field heave that found the back of the net while the Bonnies were playing a man down following a penalty.

MacDonell then worked with fellow senior Blake Maracle on a two-man game to make it a 10-8 deficit with 7:28 left in the third before Cole Kucinski and Patrick Shanahan closed the period scoring for a 10-9 tally.

Shanahan scored unassisted with 12:54 to go for a 10-10 tie, then dished to Sindoni for the sophomore's second goal of the night and Bona's first lead, 11-10, with 11:49 remaining. Cole Tucker ended the run by making it a 12-10 edge for the hosts with 9:20 to go.

Unfortunately for the Bonnies, that would be the final offense of the night for the home team.

Bryce Johnson and Slade Engstrom scored just over a minute apart for the visitors to tie the game, 12-12, with 6:51 showing on the clock. Johnny Harding netted the game-winner with 1:46 to play as the Statesmen held serve with the final run of the night.

Isaac Farmer was outstanding in net for the Bonnies, making a season-high 19 saves.

Engstrom led all players with five points for Hobart (4G-1A).

Bona finished 18-for-28 in clear attempts as the Hobart ride created issues throughout the game. Hobart also held a 16-12 edge at the faceoff dot.

The penalty kill was strong for both teams as the Statemen stopped four Bonnies extra-man opportunities while the Bonnies forced Hobart to go 0-for-6 in EMO situations.
