ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's basketball team has signed forward Mason Blackwood, head coach
Mike MacDonald announced Tuesday (April 28). Blackwood, a Rochester, N.Y., native, played in 26 games as a freshman at Penn State.
"We are very excited to sign Mason," MacDonald said. "I remember seeing him back when he was a sophomore in high school at Aquinas. He has been a very accomplished player wherever he's played. He has a lot of skills, he can score facing the basket, can score with his back to the basket, and can become a really good shooter. We're looking forward to working with him and watch him develop in the coming years."
As a freshman, Blackwood averaged 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game with the Nittany Lions. He tallied a career-best 14 points and six rebounds against Wisconsin (Jan. 22) and posted nine points, three rebounds and three assists at Purdue (Jan. 10).
Blackwood was rated as a four-star prospect out of high school. In his last two seasons of prep hoops, he led New Hampton Prep (N.H.) to back-to-back NEPSAC AAA runner-up finishes, earning first-team All-NEPSAC honors as a senior. Prior to New Hampton, Blackwood averaged 17.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Aquinas Institute in his hometown of Rochester, earning Private-Parochial Division I Player of the Year honors.
