ST. BONAVENTURE vs. FORDHAM
Thursday – Saturday
May 14 – 16
Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field
FIRST PITCH
The St. Bonaventure baseball team wraps up the 2026 season by hosting Fordham this week. The Bonnies will close out the year by honoring their graduating senior class with the longstanding program tradition of the senior last lap ceremony following Saturday's game. Thursday's game will stream on ESPN+ while Friday and Saturday's game will be available through the Bonnies Online Network for free.
ON A STREAK
Junior centerfielder Anthony Fernandez enters this week on a 13-game hitting streak, longest by any Bonnies player this season. He previously had an 18-game streak of reaching base safely earlier this year, also a season-best on the squad.
Fernandez leads the team in nearly every offensive category in his first Division I season. The junior college transfer Rhode Island native had started every game this year while pacing the club in average (.344), runs (42), hits (65), total bases (95), on-base percentage (.425) and stolen bases (21).
If Fernandez starts all three games this week, he would become the first Bonnies player to make 50 starts in a season since current associate head coach B.J. Salerno started all 52 games in 2007.
On the base paths, his 21 stolen bases this season tie for 13th in single-season program history.
DAVID THE ACE
Senior David James will make his final start with the Bonnies this week and he has looked every bit the part of an ace this season. He enters this weekend with 70 strikeouts over 72.1 innings along with a 3.86 ERA in his 13 starts, including two complete games. His 70 strikeouts so far this year are tied with Eddie Gray's 2012 season for eighth in single-season Bona history and are the most by any Bonnies pitcher since Braydon Nelson fanned 73 batters in 2019. The all-time record of 95 Ks belongs to Connor Grey '16.
JOEY BOMBS
Junior Joey Calabretti continues his late season power surge and after another impressive series at the plate last weekend at La Salle, he now owns 11 home runs on the year. That total is the most by any Bonnies player since St. Bonaventure Athletics Hall of Fame member Brian Pellegrini slugged a program record 17 homers in 2007. Calabretti enters this week tied for fourth in single-season program history along with Jesse Bosnik (2010), Joe Rizzo (2005 and 2006), Pellegrini (2005), Dan Dennison (2002) and Jonathan Myler (2000, 2001).
TAKE TWO, MANNY
Manuel Castro comes into the week with a team-best 16 doubles this season to power his .540 slugging percentage which is tied with Calabretti for the highest on the roster. Those 16 doubles are the most by a Bonnies player since Cole Peterson also finished with that number in 2017, and are tied for seventh in Bonnies single-season history. Pellegrini owns the record of 24 in 2007.
