ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Five Bonnies baseball student-athletes have earned selection to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams, officials announced Tuesday: graduates Alex Hebenstreit and David James as well as juniors James Capellupo, Manuel Castro and Antonio Cordeiro.

Already honored on the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team following the season, Capellupo owns a sparkling 3.96 cumulative GPA as an Adolescence Education major. He appeared in 18 games on the hill this season, striking out 39 batters in 43.1 innings of work with a 4.98 ERA. The Hilton, N.Y. native finished his season on a high note with a season-high seven strikeouts May 16 vs. Fordham over 6.2 innings in his second start of the season. He also threw five innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts in a start the previous weekend at La Salle.

Likewise, Castro previously was named to the A-10 All-Academic Team with a 3.76 cumulative GPA as a management major.

The Manchester, N.H. native tied for the team lead in batting average (.330) and RBIs (45) while ranking second on the team in hits (62) and home runs (8). He also paced the Bonnies this spring in on-base percentage (.415) and total bases (108), boasting 20 multi-hit games to lead all Bonnies. In Atlantic 10 games, he hit a team-high .339 with a 1.025 OPS. His 18 doubles overall also put him in a tie for fifth in Bonnies single-season history.

Cordeiro lands on the Academic All-District squad for the second consecutive year after recording a 3.77 cumulative GPA as a sports management major. Bona's everyday catcher, he set the program record for most runners thrown out from behind the plate in a season, tossing out 33 attempted base-stealers during the year. In so doing, he led the Atlantic 10 for the second consecutive year in that category. At the plate, the Pittsburgh native hit .253 as he started 49 of the team's 50 games, recording 18 extra-base hits with 10 doubles, a triple and career-best seven home runs to go along with 34 RBIs and a .364 on-base percentage.

A finance major from Vienna, Va., Hebenstreit graduated this past month with a 3.81 cumulative GPA. He started 36 of 41 games played during the year, hitting .250 with two home runs and 16 RBIs along with a .370 on-base percentage.

James, a product of London, Ontario, was the team's top starting pitcher as a senior while recording a 3.51 cumulative GPA as a marketing major. He started 14 games, tying the program season record, while striking out 72 batters in 75.1 innings with a 4.30 ERA. He led the Atlantic 10 with two complete games, including a complete game shutout over George Washington which earned him A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors in April. His 72 strikeouts on the year tied for sixth in program single-season history. In two seasons with the program, he fanned 119 batters.
