PAWS FOR A CAUSE
During Saturday's soccer doubleheader at the Marra Athletics Complex, the Bonnies basketball teams are hosting the Cattaraugus County SPCA for the Paws for a Cause event.
Fans will get a chance to meet some amazing animals while also having the chance to donate food or supplies to the SPCA. The event will be set up between the multi-purpose and baseball fields.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies completed a sweep of Little Three rivals with a 1-0 win on the road at Canisius Tuesday evening.
It marked the first Little Three sweep for the Brown and White since 2023 and was the first time the Bonnies shut out both Niagara and Canisius in the same season since 1995.
In the 60th minute, Neshawn Sutherland controlled a pass and burst down the sideline. He cutback and played a pass into Brendan Sheehan who tapped in the eventual game-winning goal.
Manex Landa paced the Bonnies with three shots, while Sutherland, Jack Steel and Alistair McFall each registered a pair of chances.
Winston Jory finished the game with four saves while securing his third shutout of the season.
SCORING SHEEHAN
Following his game-winning goal Tuesday, sophomore Brendan Sheehan has tallied three goals in his last two games.
Prior to the Boston College contest, Sheehan had appeared in 16 games without recording a point.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Through six games, Winston Jory currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 12th in the NCAA with three shutouts.
He also sits third in the conference in goals against average (.833), fourth in save percentage (.80) and fifth in saves (20).
VCU NOTES
- VCU enters the weekend still searching for its first win of the season, sitting at 0-5-2. The Rams, however, have played a competitive non-conference slate in which five out of the seven opponents were nationally ranked. VCU was picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
- Jonas Pettersen, Ty Johnson, Kimarly Scott and Parker Simkins have all logged goals for the Rams this season. In net, Manuel Monteiro has made 18 saves while allowing 13 goals.
SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies are looking to snap a five-game skid against VCU Saturday afternoon. Bona's last defeated the Rams, 2-1, Nov. 1, 2017, when VCU was ranked No. 21, clinching a berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Bona's is 1-8 all-time against the Rams.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies remain at home to host Cleveland State Tuesday, Sept. 22. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
