Jackson Root enters his second season with the Bonnies baseball coaching staff after joining the program in the summer of 2025. Root serves as the team’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
In his first season as the Bonnies’ pitching coach, the team’s ERA improved by more than two runs, dropping from 8.88 the year prior to 6.80 in 2025. WHIP, batting average against, and strikeout-to-walk ratio all improved as well.
In his first year as recruiting coordinator, the Bonnies landed seven four-year transfers, eight JUCO transfers, including three All-Americans, and an incoming freshman class of eight.
Prior to St. Bonaventure, Root spent two seasons on staff at Maine, serving as an assistant coach, pitching coordinator, and director of operations for the Black Bears. During his time on staff, he helped Maine’s pitching staff lower its team ERA by more than three full runs in his first year as pitching coordinator.
The Vermont native also served as general manager and head coach of the Colchester Cannons, a Legion and travel summer team, from 2020-24.
Root brings a background in pitching and player development. He began his coaching career on his father’s staff as the pitching coach at Essex High School in Vermont from 2020-22. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 2022 with a degree in public communication.
