Brett Beetow is in his first season as an assistant coach on the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse staff.

A 2022 graduate of St. Bonaventure, Beetow returns to Western New York after playing professionally.

Beetow's reunion with the Bonnies comes after a two-year stint in the National Lacrosse League, first with the Georgia Swarm where he was drafted in 2022 with the 58th overall pick, and later with the Halifax Thunderbirds. Beetow also served as an assistant coach at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, N.Y., where he helped the team collect a section championship.

Prior to his professional experience, Beetow had a strong three-year career as a midfielder for the Bonnies, appearing in every game during his Bonaventure career when he totaled 22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists. In 2022, while also being named to the conference's All-Academic Team, the two-year captain helped the Bonnies capture the MAAC regular season title and reach the conference championship game. In the MAAC Championship, he tallied a hat trick.

"He was one of our team leaders and helped us get to that conference championship in the MAAC, so he's got tremendous experience with us as a student-athlete," Bonnies head coach Randy Mearns said. "He had the opportunity to get drafted and he's got NLL experience. A lot of our guys are trying to get to the point where they can play in the NLL or the PLL, so he has the ability to help our guys get to that level."

Beetow will assist with a variety of team functions including offense, defense, faceoffs, and goaltending to create a collaborative coaching style, Mearns said. "We are really excited to have Brett. He is going to do wonders for the program."
